Sports Dinner at Mingara Recreation Club on Saturday night – April 12, 2008

the DONNICA CLARKE foundation was officially launched at the sold out Gala Sports Dinner at the Mingara Recreation Club.

The launch which doubled as the DONNICA CLARKE foundation’s major fundraiser grossed over $80,000 that will help athletes from the region take the next step in their sporting endeavours.

"It was a wonderful evening that exceeded all expectations," said the DONNICA CLARKE foundation chairman Mark Holton. "All up we had around 380 people there and that was great support from mums and dads, corporate sponsors, many of Donnica’s friends and athletes that had competed against or with her."

Two young athletes from the Central Coast – surf lifesavers Annie Stalley (Avoca Beach) and Maddie Powell (Terrigal), spoke of how Donnica had impacted on their lives both on and off the beach.

Annie and Maddie are ambassadors for the DONNICA CLARKE foundation.

"It was something special to hear those two speak," said Mr Holton. "We had a lot of people speaking but I think they really epitomised what the night was really about. They are two of Donnica’s peers talking about one what a special person she was and two what an immense competitor that she was."
"The Central Coast community has been wonderful," Donnica’s father, Tony Clarke said. "The generosity of the people at the evening was amazing. One hundred percent of what has been raised is for athletes from the Central Coast. As a board of directors we will get together on May 3 and decide where we’ll head from here. We’ll call for nominations in September, that will close in December and this time next year on Nica’s anniversary we will announce our scholarship holders."
